The first question is what ingredients would be used in wonton soup recipe with frozen wontons. Here is a list of ingredients with quantity needed.
I also try to provide you with best substitutes as I understand some ingredients may be unavailable.
- Wontons: 1 package (30 ounces)
For Broth
- Chicken or vegetable broth: 8 cups
- Soy sauce: 1/2 cup
- Rice vinegar: 1/4 cup
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
- White pepper: 1 tsp [ground]
- Garlic powder: 1/2 tsp
- Ginger powder: 1/4 tsp
You can also make your own broth using chicken bones, vegetables, and herbs.I prefer a lighter broth, so I dilute the broth with water.You can choose what type of broth you prefer.

Try to get a light soy sauce for a delicate flavor.I used dark soy sauce once and it gave my soup a darker color.If you don’t have soy sauce, you can substitute tamari sauce.

If you don’t have garlic powder you can use minced garlic or garlic salt as a substitute also.

Ginger powder adds a good gingery flavor to the broth. You can also use minced ginger or even ginger paste but ginger powder gives the best results.
For Garnishing
- Green onions: 1 cup [chopped]
- Cilantro: 1/4 cup [chopped]
- Sriracha sauce: 1 tbsp

- Grab a big pot or Dutch oven and pour in chicken or vegetable broth.
- Bring this broth to a boil.
- Once it’s boiling, turn down the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

- Then, use a slotted spoon, to scoop out the wontons and put them in a bowl, ready to join the broth party.

- If you are freezing uncooked wontons place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure that they don’t touch each other. Freeze them for a few hours until they become solid. Then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag.
- If you are freezing cooked wontons cool them completely, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container.
