How to make orange chicken with orange marmalade?
Here are the points to help you recreate simple orange chicken recipe with orange marmalade:
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken to coat it properly with mixture. If you let it rest for 30 minutes the coating will penetrate the chicken and would give more flavorful results.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook it until browned on all sides. It would take about 5 minutes. Please do not overcrowd the pan. Try to cook chicken in batches.
- Now add the orange marmalade, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and orange zest to the pan. Stir it to combine all the ingredients. I am going to give you a tip, suppose you don’t have orange marmalade, what would you do? Take orange juice and sugar in equal quantities and let it simmer until sugar dissolves. Use it instead of orange marmalade.
- Bring this sauce to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and also check if sauce is thickened. If you think it is more thick than you prefer just add little bit of water.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, cornstarch, and water to form a liquid mixture. Add the mixture to the pan and stir until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Serve the orange chicken over rice or noodles. You may garnish it with cilantro if you want.
