Air Fryer Wontons: Ingredients
- wonton wrappers : 1 package (12 ounces)
You can use either gyoza or dumpling wrappers also for this purpose. They are very similar in texture and size to wonton wrappers.
The thing that you have to keep in mind while buying them is they should not be dried or torn. Good quality wonton wrappers are important because they will crisp so nicely in air fryer.
- ground chicken: 1 pound
I prefer lean ground chicken because it is a healthier option than beef. You can choose whatever type of meat you love.
- Green onion: 1/2 cup [chopped]
Yellow or white onions could be used as a substitute of green onions but they give mild flavor. If you are not new in cooking journey you should already know that green onions give amazing aroma and taste. Shallots and leeks are also options.
- Red bell pepper: 1/4 cup [chopped]
I prefer red bell pepper for stuffing because it gives a bit sweeter and milder than others. You can use whichever you have.

- celery:1/4 cup [chopped]
You cannot deny the soft crunch celery would add to your wontons. You can simply skip this one if you don’t have.
- carrots: 1/4 cup [chopped]
Carrots are a sweet and crunchy element of stuffing. I prefer carrots but you can use other veggies too. Cabbage is best substitute.
- soy sauce: 1/4 cup
Dark soy sauce have a rice flavor. Tamari sauce or Worcestershire sauce can also be used in place of soy sauce.
- rice vinegar: 1 tbsp
It adds acidity to the wontons which balances out other flavors. White vinegar, apple cider vinegar or even lemon juice can be used instead of rice vinegar but they would not provide same acidity.
- sesame oil: 1 teaspoon
I use sesame oil because it has a mild aromatic nutty flavor. It is your choice which oil you want to use.
- ground ginger:1 teaspoon
You may also use freshly grated ginger. It would give an intense flavor to your wontons.
- salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil: for greasing the air fryer
As a healthier option you may use Canola oil.
- Cornstarch: 1 tbsp
Air Fryer Wontons: Instructions

Preparing the Filling:
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, onion, red bell pepper, celery, carrots, rice vinegar soy sauce, ground ginger, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Add Cornstarch also. The cornstarch absorbs moisture of the mixture so, prevents your wontons from bursting. Mix all the ingredients by hand or using a spoon.
Wrap the Wontons:
Lay a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Pour the filling you have just prepared in the center of wrapper. Take egg yolk, beat it and apply it on the edges of wrappers. Rightnow I am using water. Water is also good but egg yolk give you better results. Now pinch the edges together. Make sure to add even size of filling to the wontons. It would give them even size and shape.

Air Fry the Wontons:
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Preheating you air fryer is important because it ensure to crisp your wontons. Place the wontons in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook the wontons for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Shake the air fryer basket halfway through cooking for even browning.
